Shawn Falter laid to rest
Hundreds of people packed a Cortland County church Wednesday to attend funeral services for a fallen soldier.
Army Private Shawn Falter, 25, of Homer was killed last week in Iraq. The military says attackers disguised as Americans kidnapped and executed him.
Falter's death has had a great impact on the Village of Homer. The Village declared Wednesday a day of mourning, and there was a moment of silence when the funeral began. His family was presented with his Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.
After the funeral, Falter's body was taken to Glenwood Cemetery
in Homer.
The family asked for donations to be directed to the Fisher House Foundation, a nonprofit agency that arranges housing for military families to be close to hospitalized loved-ones.
